Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Kapiolani Bandstand, is the first meeting of the Honolulu Marathon Clinic’s 50th year of teaching the public how to start an exercise program using long-distance running as a tool. The free nine-month clinic, established by Hawaii’s famed “Father of Running,” Dr. Jack H. Scaff, offers a training program to people of all ages and experiences to prepare those who wish to run a marathon in December. The 2023 training program is dedicated to Dr. Scaff, who passed away on September 26, 2022.
In addition to its traditional 7:30 am “on time start” and instruction on the keys to embarking on a successful lifelong fitness program, the first 2023 clinic meeting will feature:
1) Pictorial display of the clinic’s colorful history
2) A Honolulu Marathon Clinic “Family Tree”
3) An impressive “Wall of Fame”
Clinic participants from throughout 50 years are encouraged to send a photo of themselves, in HMC attire, if possible, with a paragraph on what running with the clinic meant to them and their marathon experience.
Send to HMC50years@yahoo.com or Honolulu Marathon Clinic 50th Anniversary, 1314 S. King St.,Suite 1651, Honolulu, HI 96814.
The clinic is staffed by experienced runners who have completed at least one marathon.
Each Sunday, the group listens to a 10-minute lecture on different aspects of running,
and then breaks into running groups according to ability: Beginners, Intermediate and
Advanced.
