Blair’s Weekly Update 03-28-10

Doc’s Talk

Doc elaborated in detail on the reasoning for the clinic’s mantra of running for one hour each time on our “homework” run and on Sunday.

The shoe talk was held today at the Running Room. I am sure all attendees learned a great deal from Gaston and his crew. The next talk is scheduled for April 11th at 9:00 a.m. Group leaders, please schedule your runs accordingly. Thanks!

Table Duty

Special mahalos to the staff leaders who manned the table the last two weeks – Shoko, Lynn and Harry last week and newlyweds Marilyn and Wayne today. The drinks and treats were delicious! Thank you Marilyn for the homemade cookies! Yummy! Continue reading

Doc’s Talk

Doc divulged the clinic’s “secret” to finishing the marathon – two “homework” runs, one hour each time, then a long, fun run on Sunday! Why one hour? Doc states that after 40 minutes of running, we start to deplete our carbohydrate stores and rely on the burning of fat for energy. So, we need to get our body “accustomed” to running on “fat burning body fuel” (not the most efficient source of fuel). Since the marathon is a very loooong and arduous run, we will naturally have to rely on all sources to generate energy.

First shoe Talk on March 28th

The talk starts promptly at 900a.m. so we need to cut our runs short on Sunday – perhaps finish by 830. Mainly for beginners but it is for anyone who can make it; Intermediate and Advanced sessions on April 11 at 900 am. Usually a 20% discount offered on shoes on day of the talk. For first time marathoners, attendance is a must! Continue reading

Blair’s Weekly Update 03-14-10

The always eloquent Dr. Scaff, the always informative Peter, the clinic board and staff members welcomed everyone to the HMC’s 36th season! Nearly 300 participants attended the season’s first meeting which was competing with a Mid Pacific Roadrunners’ 5K race for road access and parking. Congrats to everyone on their perseverance!

We thank Intermediate Blue Group leader Andy H. for the great spread at table duty! The fruits, crackers, pretzels and drinks were delicious!

Special mahalos to Val O. for taking care of our shirt sales – always a tough uneviable job! Continue reading

Honolulu Marathon Clinic 2010 Start

It’s that time again — the start of another season of the HMC. Next Sunday, March 14th, marks the start of our 36th season! In addition to the newbies, we look forward to seeing all of our regulars and “repeaters.” Hope to see many of our 668+ email subscribers there. Wouldn’t that be a great Advertiser/Star Bulletin “photo of the week” — nearly 1,000 runners showing up for the first session?

See all of you there!
