A large crowd of approximately 250 runners was on hand to hear Dr. Scaff’s talk on heat exchange and hydration. The topic was most appropriate because the combination of VOG, heat and humidity made running this morning very uncomfortable. Replenishing fluids were a must today. Continue reading

Blair’s Weekly Update 04-20-08
Doc’s Talk:
200+ runners welcomed Doc back from his trip to the mainland. Doc talked about the “ideal” body temperature when running – 101 degrees. At 105 degrees the body would be overheating; therefore proper hydration and nutrition is essential in long distance running. Doc also mentioned that ordinary pretzels are a great source of carbs and sodium. Continue reading

Blair’s Weekly Update 04-06-08
Dr. Scaff and his wife Donna are off on a two week trip to the east coast to oversee a run. So, Peter informed us of some administrative details then sent us off on our way. The timing was perfect and well planned (thanks to Rosemary) because the first of our shoe talks was scheduled today. Nice crowd of 60+ heard Gaston, the assistant manager of the Running Room give great information about shoes. (See Norm Uyeda’s report on the Shoe Talks in Beginner’s Bits).
